When International ESL Teacher Adrian Rockefeller brought his own copy of party card game One Night Ultimate Werewolf to English Corner last week, the enthusiastic response from students was equal only to Adrian's passion. Since then, students have been requesting to play the game during lunch breaks!

This experience of English as a social action is thoroughly heartwarming to watch. As each student discovers who they are (villager or werewolf?) and must then try and guess the identity of others (friend or enemy?!), Adrian unifies the group with his special humorous teaching style.

Ben Hinton (Head, Foreign English Teaching Team) reports that: "I'm presently exploring a highly interactive 'Parlour Game' approach to English Corner activities. And I had thought this was a particularly British style of activity, but it seems that parlour games are also traditional and popular in China. For example, what Westerners might call 'Blind Man's Buff' is enjoyed as version lìng dài 令代 in China."

Of course English Corner is not just about fun or distraction. It's about learning and being able to use English. In fact, English Corner is part of the school oriented curriculum UNNCAHS is innovating and what Linda Liu (Head of Teaching) refers to as "Social English Activities".
